‘Turn Around For Me’ is the new single from acclaimed Scottish songwriter Constant Follower aka Stephen McAll. Available from May 9, 2024, the track was co-produced and mixed in Austin, Texas by Dan Duszynski, known for his work with Loma/SubPop and Brian Eno.

Retaining the lyrical depth and intricate melodies Constant Follower is celebrated for, ‘Turn Around For Me’ also features compelling hooks and an unexpected gentle rhythmic pulse packed into its 2.30mins running time. This combination is compulsively addictive, ensuring the song will remain on repeat.

About the single, Stephen McAll says: "It was an honour to work with Dan Duszynski at his ranch studio in Dripping Springs, Texas. His work as Loma and Cross Record inspired a lot of the production on my last album. And to stay out in the middle of nowhere in the Texas Hill Country for a month while we worked was quite the experience. I slept in an old RV nestled amongst pecan trees and would be woken in the night by the coyotes. I'd go for night walks to try and spot them, but all I'd see were the sparkling eyes of countless spiders watching me from the grass. We'd spend long days in the studio mixing what I'd recorded in Stirling, adding magical touches. This track won't be on the album. I felt like it needed its own space, and a 7" provides just that."

About the cover, artist Peter Russell says: "I collect newspaper photographs to act as sources, but always rearranged. In this case an image of Search and Rescue operatives loading casualties into a helicopter was too raw, and was torn in strips to alter the graphic forms. This was glued onto a prepared page, with trails of glue to resist the overveiling inks which were freely washed. Whether the work can be adjudged finished is not the point. As a sketchbook work it might have, and may still develop."

Constant Follower is the alias of songwriter Stephen McAll whose instantly compelling and moving debut album, the Kramer co-produced, ‘Neither is Nor Ever Was’ (Shimmy Disc), was shortlisted for the SAY Award (Scottish Album of the Year) in 2022. The album also found its way onto 17 ‘Best Albums of the Year’ lists and led to a SAMA (Scottish Alternative Music Awards) nomination. 

As well as key Scottish venues, the outfit have played a number of notable events including Austin’s SXSW Festival 2022/2023/2024, Wide Days 2022 and the SAY Awards Ceremony 2022. McAll has just returned from a short tour of the Pacific NorthWest.

Chris and Scott meeting at a show as requested by @russolaw !! Also a little extra moodboard and writing<3

A spark landed on him. "Ow! Fuck-" Chris yelped, dropping his lighter and shaking his hand. He popped his cigarette out of his mouth with his free hand, letting out a puff of smoke. 

"You alright?"

He looked up and nearly jumped backward at the site of the blonde man now standing closer. He gulped, "Uh...yeah...just fine..." he stammered, licking his lips. 

The blonde tilted his head, and the sight made Chris want to squirm, "Are you sure?" He asked, voice rising ever so slightly in the most adorable way. 

Chris blinked dumbly, "Uh yeah, no, yeah..uh sorry I.." he stuttered, glancing away and smiling wide out of embarrassment. Oh God, what is he doing? He brought the cigarette back to his lips, inhaling. 

He glanced down and noticed how the man's hands were clasped together, twitching and fidgeting. The thought of raising them to his mouth and kissing them passed through his brain, and he blushed. 

"Uh..did you watch the show?" Chris asked, exhaling a huff of smoke to the side of him. 

The man raised his eyebrows, before resting them and smiling softly, "I did, yeah," he dug one hand in his jacket, and pulled out a rolled-up playbill. He unraveled it and held it in front of him like it was proof he watched it. 

Chris couldn't help but smile, "Yeah? Did you...like it?" He asked slowly, bringing his cigarette up to his lips. 

For some reason, his opinion meant a lot to Chris. He knew it was a bit pathetic, especially considering he just met this guy, but he couldn't help it. 

The blonde shrugged, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips, "Hmm..yeah it was okay,"

Chris' face dropped slightly. Okay? It was just okay?  He let out a puff of smoke. 

Then the man laughed, his hand combing away his hair and pushing it behind his ear, "I'm only kidding," he huffed, a sweet smile replacing the previously sinister one, "You're a really talented playwright, Chris."

Chris' heart skipped. He sounded so genuine, and...well he'd never been told that before. People compliment the actors of course because...well they're what you see on stage. But so far tonight this was the first compliment he'd gotten over his writing.

Wait. 

Chris' jaw dropped, "How'd you know I was the playwright?" He asked, dumbfounded. It wasn't like he was wearing a name tag. 

"Mmm, I asked around. I wanted to compliment you on the work," the man hummed. 

Chris' face heated up. Wow. This...gorgeous man wanted to meet him? And compliment him? Shit his play must've actually been good...

He chuckled, "Huh..well now I feel bad. You know my name, and came here to compliment me and all I've done has stammer uselessly," Chris shook his head, bringing the cigarette back to his lips. 

The man plucked the cigarette out of his mouth, "It's Scott," he smiled sweetly, bringing the cigarette to his lips. 

Chris' face tightened, and his entire body felt hot. He watched as Scott inhaled the smoke of his cigarette, blowing it in his face. And he looked fucking ethereal doing it. Does he normally smoke? Did he just do that to tease Chris? Was Scott flirting with him openly? 

"It was a good show," Scott's squeaky voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and his jaw dropped as he watched Scott put the cigarette back into Chris's mouth, holding it for him.

Chris felt like he may faint if he tried to do anything. So he simply closed his mouth around the cigarette, inhaling as he stared up at Scott. 

Scott's eyelashes fluttered as he stared down at Chris, and his hair fell into his face. It didn't matter, because he looked beautiful no matter what. 

Chris took his lips off the cigarette, exhaling smoke, "Thank you."

Info on my Frank/Scott AU as per requested :3 (@amadeusevenstar )

Frank originally had gone to New York with his newfound family as a summer vacation. They'd be spending 2 weeks there before heading to the Bahamas. But Frank could hardly stand his new family for a day, let alone weeks. So when he'd met Scott, he took a chance.

They met at a cafe(how cliche)frank assumed he was a girl from behind and went up to flirt with him, only to be jump scared by the most beautiful man he'd ever seen. He did in fact spill his coffee all over him and while trying to wipe Scott off with napkin touched his titties. Scott then proceeds to ask him out.

They moved in together almost immediately, both claiming it was just out of necessity. (Scott would say it was out of the kindness in his heart, not wanting frank to deal with his family, although he never understood why someone would turn down a trip to the bahamas for new york)

They started dating one night when Scott was making the two of them dinner. Spaghetti if he remembered correctly. Frank had taken a bite, moaning at the delicious taste and saying "Ain't I the luckiest boy in the world? I have a hot babe for a boyfriend AND he can cook". He hadn't even realized he'd said boyfriend until Scott pointed it out. He was embarrassed, ducking his head down and blabbing out that they didn't have to be boyfriends if he didn't want to, but Scott silenced him, shoving a meatball in his mouth before pecking him on the lips.

Frank admits to being a virgin 3 months into their relationship, so they decide to take it slow

The fic I'm writing takes place on their 6 month anniversary, which is when frank will finally fuck his bf(about damn time)
